Staff Spotlight: 60 seconds with Jeremy Mountain

Handling the day to day Marketing and PR activity at Wolf Group, Jeremy Mountain gives us his insight into what it’s really like to work in the fast-paced Tech sector.

How would you describe your job role?

I do the PR and marketing for Wolf Group. In short my job is about internal and external communication, relationship building, lead generation and raising the profile of the business.

Who do you work with?

Unsurprisingly our Business Development Manager, Carolyn, and our UI and Graphic Designer, Nick, but at one point or another I’ve worked with everybody at Wolf. I also work closely with local schools, universities, and the council on various projects and events, as well as our external marketing agency, Thrive.

What annoys you the most?

Spam email, parking costs and celebrity fitness DVDs.

What has been your most memorable moment at Wolf so far?

During National Apprenticeship Week the apprenticeship arm of our software development academy took part in an enterprise challenge. One of the esteemed judges of the competition, a charismatic local Councillor, had some fantastic and hilarious feedback for our apprentices on their projects including some more unusual suggestions for how they could make their presentations more engaging i.e. howling like a wolf with an added demonstration by the Councillor to boot!… Possibly the funniest day at Wolf so far!

What is the most challenging part of your role?

Because we’re in the bespoke software development industry our team could create virtually any piece of software imaginable! That’s an exciting prospect, but a somewhat unique hurdle when it comes to creating an understanding of our company and its services and imagining that into a brand that suits such incredible capabilities.

What was the last lie you told?

I’m busy on Saturday.

People often make presumptions about the tech sector. Set the record straight.

There’s a common misconception that the IT industry is full of ‘geeks’ hiding away behind their computer screens in a darkened room, but Wolf Group has shown me this isn’t true. Our diverse team come from a range of different technical and commercial backgrounds, all bringing something new and interesting to the table. We probably don’t shout about that enough.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would it be?

I’m a city boy at heart so it would have to be somewhere in the centre of the action. For me this is Newcastle.
